Ron Kanter

Ron Kanter has practised municipal, planning and development law for more than 30 years.  He represents landowners, developers, builders, governments, professional associations and residents before local councils, appeal tribunals and the courts.  He also negotiates subdivision and construction agreements between developers, adjacent neighbours and municipalities.

Ron also resolves land use disputes through alternatives to litigation.  He arbitrates construction disputes for Tarion and private contractors; represents parties in land use mediations and was recently certified as a mediator in complex disputes at the Harvard Law School.  Ron has applied to adjudicate disputes under the Construction Act.

In addition to his legal practice, Ron plays an active role in his community.  He sits on the Durham Election Audit Compliance Committee and has chaired committees for the Toronto Region Board of Trade and the City of Toronto.  He has advised provincial and foreign governments on municipal governance, and is contacted frequently by the media to comment on municipal and planning issues.  Ron served as a municipal councillor and provincial MPP before practising law.
